Center of reference for neurogenic swallowing disorders and tracheostomy tube management

PES represents an innovative therapeutic concept to treat neurogenic dysphagia. Upon application of this therapeutic method small amounts of electrical pulses will be applied on defined parts of the mucosal surface of the throat (pharynx) thus bringing neuronal plasticity into action and subsequent reorganisation of the brain is amending neurogenic control of the swallowing function. The effectiveness of this treatment in patients afflicted by severe neurogenic swallowing disorders could already be proved in large scaled and multicentric studies.
