Nursing Concepts

Basal stimulation

Basal stimulation is used in nursing care to challenge and support patients with severe impairment in perceptual, communication and movement capacity. Using the simplest means (e.g. design of the environment, personal care items, massage, etc. ) the nursing team tries to establish contact with the patient in order to allow them access to their environment and fellow human beings and to experience quality of life. The concept of basal stimulation is primarily intended to promote sensory perception, body-orientation and communication.

Kinaesthetics

Kinaesthetics is the teaching of one's own movement perception and movement competence. It is important for the caregivers and patients alike. The patients are supported by the caregivers, based on this concept. This allows to initiate and, if necessary to relearn physiological movement sequences. In training sessions and with practical accompaniment by trained trainers, the caregiver learns to pay attention to his/her own movement and to work in a back-friendly posture. Kinaesthetics can be applied both in everyday work (e.g. movements in bed, various transfers) and for private purposes (e.g. carrying loads)

Bobath
The Bobath concept was originally developed for patients with brain damage and is a problem-solving approach in the assessment and treatment of people with neurological diseases. Based on the processes of normal movement and in particular on the knowledge that muscle tone (spasticity) can be influenced by posture and positioning of the body, functional movement should be developed and limitations in movement and pain should be avoided. The learning processes are based on movement sequences, e.g. personal hygiene, dressing, eating or positioning in bed.

Following coaches have been established in ordert o implement the nursing concepts:
